March 19, 2019As an LWAS Community member, you have exclusive access to my top product picks. This means you can be sure you’re choosing the best options when choosing a cereal.
This was by no means an exhaustive list of all the cereals on the market (that would be almost impossible!) If you haven’t yet read my guide to choosing a cereal, click here to read it now – it gives you step-by-step guidance for reading labels of the cereals in your supermarket. The cereals listed below all meet my 4 criteria for selecting a cereal.
Note: The products listed below are a selection of those I looked at in February, 2019. This information may change at any time, so please read the labels and use the guide to choosing a cereal in conjunction with this list. You can also download the database of nutrition info of all the products I looked at here if you want to see how your choices fared.
Kelloggs Guardian

With 18.4g fibre and 9.7g protein per 100g, Guardian is also under the suggested limits for sugar and sodium as well as made from 63% whole grains.
Sanitarium Weet-Bix Original

Plain and simple, Weet-Bix are always a winner. With 12.4g protein, 11g of fibre, 97% whole grain and only 3.3g sugar and 270mg sodium per 100g.
Sanitarium Weet-Bix Blends – Apple & Cinnamon & Cranberry & Coconut

Both the Apple & Cinnamon and Cranberry & Coconut Weet-Bix Blends met all four of the criteria. They are both a little higher in sugar than the original because of the added fruit, but they still have less than 15g per 100g.
Uncle Tobys Plus Fibre

The Uncle Tobys Plus Fibre are a little higher in sugar with 23.3g per 100g, but this is partially due to the dried fruit. It does however, make a good choice for those that want a flakey cereal as it’s low in sodium (105mg per 100g), high in fibre and more than 50% whole grain so it still meets all the criteria.
Oat Brits

Just like Weet-Bix, these are simple made from minimal ingredients. They meet all four of the criteria with no added sugar (only 0.8g per 100g) but high in fibre and protein (10.2g and 11.8g per 100g respectively).
Uncle Tobys Natural Style Muesli

A natural-style muesli is always a good option, but this one was the best of the bunch that I looked at. It’s one of the lowest in sugar with 16g per 100g. As it’s made with oats, it’s high in fibre and whole grain and low in sodium.
Be Natural – 5 Whole Grain Flakes

The Be Natural flakes meet all four of the criteria. They have 9.5g protein, 13.1g fibre and only 14g sugar and 60mg sodium per 100g.
Carmens Untoasted Apricot Peach & Coconut Muesli

This was the only variety that met all four criteria, however the apple, date and cinnamon muesli was also close. The apricot, peach and coconut has 12.8g protein, 10.1g fibre and only 16mg sodium per 100g.
Be Natural Whole Grain Mini Bites – Original and Cinnamon

Both the original and the cinnamon varieties met all four criteria. They’re a little lower in protein than some of the other top picks, but they are still high in fibre, and really low in sodium.
So, that’s it… They’re my picks! I would love to hear from you about what areas of the supermarket you’d like me to cover next, just comment below. Lastly, if you want to check out other shopping guides, click the shopping tab at the top right of this page.
